Father of three, Dave Tasker was on a camping holiday, and walking back to the campsite from a night out, when he was hit by a car.

He woke up in Nottingham Hospital about a month after the incident where he discovered he had serious damage to his arm, a bleed on the brain and his left leg had been amputated from above the knee.

Dave was engaged to marry his partner at the time of the incident. However, he wasn't able to recognise her or his children at first due to his head injury. It was only when he dreamt about them that he was able to remember his partner's name.

Dave found it difficult at first to come to terms with what had happened to him and that took him to a dark place. However, his partner set a date for the wedding and Dave began to look forward, determined to stand on his wedding day.

To do that, Dave needed immediate treatment and rehabilitation, so he decided to take legal action. He was watching TV when he saw the Slater and Gordon TV advert and his mum told him to call and find out if there was anything they could do for him. One of Slater and Gordon's experts who specialised in brain and amputation injuries visited him in hospital and began working on his case.

A rehabilitation plan was put in place and Dave began the hard work. It was extremely difficult as he had to learn everything once again. However, the hard work paid off and when his partner walked down the aisle, Dave was able to stand.

Dave's inspirational story doesn't stop there. He has always been a keen sportsperson and prior to the incident, was building his way up to compete in the Olympics. He's since completed in a triathlon and is now training for the Paralympics.
